Saugeen Shores is home to the renowned Southampton Art School which was established in 1957 by artist, Bert Henderson. Since the Art School opened, people of all ages and ambitions have arrived to learn…watercolours, oil, acrylics, printmaking, landscapes, still life, fabric art, sculpture, stained glass, and collage – for a day, a weekend, a week, in the school or on location, adult or children’s classes, whatever suited their time and ambitions. Our instructors are among the best artists with a gift for passing on their knowledge, expertise and joy in their art to beginners, professionals and every stage in between.
CHILDREN'S CLASS INSTRUCTORS

Antje Martens-Oberwelland lives on a farm in Bruce County. She studied at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg, Germany, has exhibited widely and is an experienced art instructor. As energy medicine practitioner she likes to combine her skills to inspire creatives of all ages.

Erin FitzGibbon is a teacher with over 20 years’ experience teaching art to young children. She likes to encourage students to explore and discover a love of creating. She believes she's done something if every student walks out of class with a project that looks exactly the same.

Jan Dolby is an internationally published illustrator.

Janice has been an art teacher and artist for more than 20 years’ experience she loves to teach and see kids projects come to life giving them the chances to share their love of art and broaden their talents in to animation.

Jennifer attended the Humber College School of Comedy Writing and Performance with the agenda to teach her craft to others. She is the director of Laugh Lessons where she teaches professional development to schools and businesses.

Jennifer Hayden currently teaches full day kindergarten in Toronto. She is an animal and nature lover with a major green thumb. Jennifer is a nurturing teacher who creates a positive learning environment for students of all ages.

Karen Brioux has been teaching art for over 35 years to all ages. She studied fine arts at Sheridan College. She lives in Oakville, Ontario. She loves sharing her love of art.

Mark Thurman is an Author/ Illustrator of over 40 books and did 154 Mighty Mite Comics for OWL magazine. He teaches in the Animation Program at Sheridan College and has taught cartooning for 30 years.

Mary Burke is a Niagara Artist living in Port Colborne Ontario. She is a passionate advocate of the arts in the Niagara and hopes to continue utilizing her talents as a positive force throughout Ontario. Last fall Mary held an exhibition “Streetscapes” at the Bruce County Museum.

Maureen has worked with many sculptural materials. She enjoys sharing the experience of sculpting with this ancient material. This encourages imagination and creativity.

Niv Saberi is a new mom that loves to dabble in painting, DIY crafts & baking to express her creative side. She is passionate about community service & youth empowerment. Niv believes that arts, crafts and sciences have the potential to uplift the world!

Tanya studied Fine Arts and Graphic Design at George Brown College and lives and works in Southampton. She has been teaching art classes for over 20 years and enjoys helping children explore new ways to express their creativity.

Rachel is a former professional Calligrapher who fell in love with Gothic Calligraphy at age 13, and taught herself by using a calligraphy kit. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and introducing students to the art of calligraphy.

Bespoke Master-Carver Siggi Buhler was born and raised in Wengen, Switzerland. In 1983 he completed his apprenticeship at the Schule fur Holzbildhauerei of Brienz, in the classic and rigorous Swiss wood-carving techniques. He has been a professional Wood-Carver ever since.

Suzette is a full time professional artist. She has been teaching at Southampton for the past four years, inspiring children to create environments using sculpture, paint, collage and printmaking.
