2022 - A Year in Review
By: Karen Friis
2022 saw many wonderful additions such as Linda Spruce and a newly named position COMMUNICATIONS & FUND DEVELOPMENT. This has proven to be very successful as Linda has secured some major funding opportunities.
Our gallery inventory overhaul through the new Lightspeed point of sale application, has the gallery sales desk running very smoothly.
We saw many solo exhibits from some of our gallery artists. We hosted “Meet the Artist” receptions each month - these were well attended but also affected by the weather.
We had 46 gallery artists and artisans including oil, acrylic and water paintings, sculptures, pottery, woodwork and jewelry. Many of these artists were returning from the previous year, as per contract. We saw 6 new artists juried in.
Special thanks to our 3 main volunteers for their dedication to SA. We saw JoAnn Sturgeon, a gallery artist, always available to help in any and all aspects of the centre. Murray Majury, a special needs volunteer (through Community Living) helps out weekly for a couple of hours and Brigitta Roube is our designated weekend assistant to our gallery sales staff.
We saw three Canada Summer Jobs applicants. These students worked in the gallery and school through July and August.
Darlene created a very full art class schedule and we had a physical cataloug to match. Classes were very well attended with a few exceptions.
Special thanks also goes to our Board of Directors who have shown their dedication and unending willingness to help.
Overall Southampton Arts saw some growing pains but also saw great successes and solidified building blocks for future growth.
Thank you!
