Bill Colley

My work mainly revolves around the landscape. I am attracted to images where the beauty and influence of nature is enduring and powerful. I use colour and expression as my way of capturing what I experience. I enjoy each brushstroke of pure colour as they work together to create my paintings. I am entranced in the surface of each painting, creating textured layers which drive the image as the viewer gets closer to the piece. I work mainly in my studio from sketches and photos taken from life. My work has one foot in Impressionism, and the other in realism....so kind of a mix of both with paintings that feel more like Van Gogh's than Robert Bateman images. I try to capture the soul and feeling of the places and people I paint.
