EXPLORING COLLAGE WITH SUZETTE TERRYDate & Time: May 2nd, 9am-4pm
Price: $90 Skill Level: Intermediate, Advanced Adult/Teen Material Fee: $25 payable to the instructor The art of collage is so much more than glueing paper to a surface! Students will explore the multitude of possibilities in this one day workshop. Lessons will include different surface preparations, application methods, finishing glazes, and how to use the principles of design to create a finished piece. Through demonstrations, students will create an intriguing design using repetition, mark making, and printmaking. We will also apply textures with found objects, japanese papers, and photocopies. FLORAL FIREWORKS WITH MARION ANDERSONDate & Time: May 21-24th, 9am-12pm
Price: $200 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material list available here Through daily demonstrations and practice exercises, Marion will guide you through a systematic approach to creating a floral fragment on a textured canvas. Students will begin with canvas prep, adding textures with different applications, and underpainting. After the backgrounds have been perfected, students will practice floral imagery in watercolour before applying any paint to their canvas. Once a design has been decided, Marion will provide tips and demos to walk you through the final stages of completing your very own floral fireworks painting. REGISTER HERE! |
JOURNAL MAKING AND WATERCOLOUR PLEIN-AIR WITH BEV MORGANDate & Time: June 1st, 9am-4pm
Price: $90 Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate Adult/Teen Material Fee: $25 payable to the instructor In the morning, students will create their own art journal, made with 140lb watercolour paper. These handmade journals will then be used for an afternoon of plein-air painting outdoors. Students will learn tips and techniques to approach sketching and painting with the elements, as Bev will share her plein-air experiences from travelling abroad with other artists, and from her weekly meetings with a group who met along the Saugeen Watershed. This class will be held at the instructor’s studio in Hanover, which has beautiful gardens and interesting subjects to sketch and paint. POPPIES IN WATERCOLOUR & BATIK ON RICE PAPER WITH BEV MORGANDate & Time: June 15th, 9am-4pm
Price: $90 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material Fee: $30 payable to the instructor Students will create a beautiful, textured painting on rice paper, by combining three mediums: pen, watercolour, and wax. It all begins with a pen sketch, and then by alternating applications of watercolour and melted wax, areas will resist the watercolour, forming layers and depth in your piece. After finishing the layering process, the wax is removed which will reveal your beautiful poppy painting. A few final touches are added with watercolour, and your piece is done! MIXED MEDIA PAPER CARD SET WITH JANICE BROWN Date & Time: June 27-28th, 9am-4pm
Price: $180 Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate Adult/Teen Material Fee: $40 payable to the instructor Janice will bring all the gadgets needed to make an embossed and embellished, paper card set. She has multiple patterns to choose from, and will teach students how to combine painting, die cutting, and embossing all in one piece! Students will use an assortment of handmade papers, mediums, paints, and glazes to achieve a finish with so much depth. The cards created in class can be used in a set, or put in a frame to enjoy all the time. Janice will also include a package of papers for students to take home to continue painting on their own time. REGISTER HERE! |
SCULPTURE: PAPER CLAY WITH FOUND OBJECTS WITH MAUREEN MCLEODDate & Time: July 8-12th, 1pm-4pm
Price: $250 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material Fee: $40 payable to the instructor This course will use an ancient form of clay that has been blended with paper fibres. You will learn to use this special type of clay which is easy to work with and dries quickly with no kiln required! Students will learn the basics of rolling coils and slabs, and pinching forms. The objective will be to create a creature or form from an armature through the use of the principles of design, while discovering your spontaneous creativity with this new material. ISLAND HOPPING WITH MARION ANDERSONDate & Time: August 23rd, 6:30pm-8:30pm & August 24-25th, 9am-4pm
Price: $215 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material list available here Learn the ease and beauty of plein-air painting in this weekend workshop. Class begins on Friday evening where students will construct a booklet to use for plein-air painting throughout the weekend. On Saturday, weather permitting, we will take a boat tour to Chantry Island, and then visit various sites around Southampton on Sunday (also the rain date to visit the island). Come experience plein-air watercolour painting, with a very seasoned plein-air painter to provide you with tips and techniques to improve your watercolour painting. If the weather is bad all weekend, Marion will guide you through watercolour exercises in the Art School. Each student will need to bring $25 to purchase a boat ticket before departing for the island, and note that we will be there for a full day, so please pack a lunch! REGISTER HERE! |
SILK PAINTING & SEWING WITH JANICE BROWNDate & Time: September 11-13th, 9am-4pm
Price: $270 Skill Level: Beginner Adult/Teen Material Fee: $65 payable to the instructor Silk painting is such a fun medium to work with, and Janice will walk students step-by-step on how to create a pillow using your very own design. Students will learn about the properties of silk paint, how to apply them to the fabric, and how to sew your artwork into a pillow. Decorating your home never has been so easy, so come join us in this three day workshop and discover the joys of painting on silk! ENCAUSTIC PAINTING WEEKEND WITH MARIANNE GIBSONDate & Time: September 14-15th, 9am-4pm
Price: $180 Skill Level: Beginner, Intermediate Adult Material Fee: $100 payable to the instructor Create beautiful paintings by applying a mix of beeswax, tree resin, and oil paint to wood, fusing them together with with heat. Day one will include an introduction to the medium, history, safety, using heating tools to fuse the encaustic to wood boards, and introduction to image transfers. Day two will cover more intermediate topics including making the medium, experimenting with collage, creating different textures, and the challenge of making a smooth surface for image/photo transfers. Students are encouraged to test out these new techniques and get creative. You’ll find this medium to be one of the most versatile and fun art forms out there. No experience necessary! PAPER ART - CUTS AND COLLAGE WITH ANTJE MARTENS-OBERWELLANDDate & Time: September 18-20th, 9am-4pm
Price: $270 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material Fee: $35 payable to the instructor Many people may not know, but Henri Matisse was known for his paper art and collage. We will examine his work, along with Antje’s, and other contemporary paper collage artists to learn about design, what makes a good pattern, and how to use paper and scissors creatively. Participants will start out with paper cuts and create patterns using a variety of papers which will be glued onto a paper substrate. If desired, finished work can be enhanced using ink or items found in nature. Participants will create a landscape or still life using ripped paper either from magazines or richly textured and tinted handmade paper. Additional to the fee of $35, participants will need to bring a pair of scissors and an extractor knife. REGISTER HERE! |
PLUGGING INTO YOUR CREATIVITY WITH SUZETTE TERRYDate & Time: September 25th, 9am-4pm
Price: $90 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material Fee: $25 payable to the instructor Find your ‘voice’ in this hands on workshop by bringing items that represent you to class. Collected images, personal photos, magazine clippings, poems, textured papers and more can be used to create artwork. Using photocopies of the originals, we will explore techniques like photo transfers, embellishing with paint, creating a cohesive design, applying materials to a substrate, and using simple concepts to create a unified design that is all about you! No formal art training required! Suzette will have a selection of items to be used, but students are encouraged to bring their own so their work will be more personal. REGISTER HERE! |
INTRO TO PEN AND INK, & WATERCOLOUR WITH ALBERT CASSONDate & Time: October 12th, 9am-4pm
Price: $90 Skill Level: All Levels Adult/Teen Material list available here This course is for any level, and will dive into the basic techniques of creating a piece in pen and ink, and watercolor. Students will learn to combine these mediums into beautiful pieces of artwork using techniques like; stippling, cross hatching, cable drawing, embellishment with watercolour, applying resists, and using different papers to create interesting effects. Students will also learn how to properly block their paper, so it will not buckle. Reference photos will be provided, and students will leave with all the skills required to create their own dynamic composition at home. REGISTER HERE! |
