    Paint:

The most important pigment to buy is artist quality Titanium White. You will use volumes of white compared to other pigments and professional quality makes a huge difference. Other than white, you can start with student grade paints and work up, but it makes a huge difference if you use artist grade materials. Golden and Liquitex are brands I use, but there are many quality products. There are optional colours listed as well but they are nice to have. The liquid white and black I would put at the top of my list.

-Matte Medium- I use Liquitex mainly because I like the squirt bottle better than Golden’s.

    -Ultramarine Blue

    -Phthalo Blue (Green Shade-not red)

    -Cadmium Yellow (light or medium)

    -Yellow Ochre

-Cadmium Red Light (Pyrrole Red or Cadmium free are great as well)

    - Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Crimson (you can get Pyrrole as well, but it is more expensive)

-Burnt Sienna (or transparent earth red)

    Optional (but nice)

-(I prefer Golden liquid Titanium White and Carbon Black, but either the liquid or tube work great)

    -Phthalo Green

    -Chromium Green Oxide

    -Indian Yellow

    -Light Bismuth Yellow

    -Dioxazine Violet

    - Quinacridone Magenta

    Palette:

If you have a Masterson wet palette please bring it along. The Sta-Wet palette sheets and sponges are available at Deserres or Michael’s online and are highly recommended.

If not, a few flat plastic or styrofoam trays work great as a palette for the class.

**Also bring containers for water and paper towels and a few paint rags…I often use my shirt!

    Brushes

A variety of brushes is great to have. Two Flat and filbert sizes are recommended and a fine liner or two. We will use fairly small flats or filberts for the course ¼ inch to ½ inch Flat ended brushes (flats) and round ended brushes (filberts). Fine liners are usually numbered a 1 or 0.

Reference Material I provide the reference material.

    Extra Stuff

-White Chalk. If you have fine chalk and a holder even better. I got a nice one at a quilting store.

    -Pencils

    -Ruler

-Spray bottles for water…we can also use them for paint! (about the size to spray a plant with)

    - a roll of green painters tape

    - some sketching paper or your sketchbook
