Portraiture with Marta Scythes

Participants will gain comprehensive knowledge of the human face and head, and will acquire confidence to produce convincing portraits from observation. Students will learn to record the planes of the face in different lighting scenarios by analyzing contrast in value and using a variety of shading techniques. The structure and placement of individual features will be studied aiding in an understanding of shape and proportions. Methods to depict hair will be shown. Composition, negative space, and perspective, as they apply to portraiture, will be explored. Demonstrations will be given each class. This course is suitable for beginner or intermediate artists.
