Debbie Schenk

Mixed Media

Debbie is a mixed media artist living and working in Walkerton.  She is a graduate of Ontario College of Art (OCA) and continues to expand her method of expression by attending workshops by artists she admires. What she loved most about attending OCA in the seventies was the focus on ideas and creativity and less on technique. Debbie majored in photography, particularly black and white, manipulation in the darkroom and old photographic processes such as cyanotype and gum prints. She was fascinated by the contrast between light and dark, tonal range and the way an image emerged from a blank page in the dark room, all these things have followed her into the way she continues to see images and paint.

Living in rural Ontario keeps Debbie connected with her roots and the landscape. She believes this connection heightens respect for our natural environment, the importance of conservation and keeping our footprint as small as possible.
