Greg McDonald

Watercolour

My work combines ink and watercolour to capture the spectacular within the everyday. Rooted in a desire to slow life down, each painting is an imperfect record of a fleeting moment, shaped more by emotional resonance than precise description.

Influenced by Impressionist principles, I seek to interpret rather than replicate. Intentional looseness and selective detail invite viewers to step into the scene, bringing their own memories and sensations to the experience. My subject matter often centres on ordinary places and passing moments, where quiet beauty reveals itself through attention and reflection.

Watercolour’s fluidity and unpredictability play a central role in my process, creating a balance between control and spontaneity. Transparent layers of light and colour evoke atmosphere, movement and the transient nature of perception.

Each piece becomes a journey through location, time and feeling. Ultimately, my paintings invite viewers into an experience that connects place, memory and the act of seeing itself.
