Sylvia Elliot

Collage

Sylvia Elliott has resided amongst the trees along the shore of Lake Huron for more than twenty years. At mid-life she studied fine art at York University. Her work is included in collections in many countries and she has won several awards. Working and playing with mixed media collage, Sylvia recombines materials and this layering allows her to simultaneously reveal and conceal and ultimately bring cohesion to disparate parts, creating a new whole - in a sometimes surprising, sometimes challenging, sometimes beautiful way. Along with Southampton Arts, she is a member of the Bruce Peninsula Society of Artists, The Red Schoolhouse Gallery (Ferndale), Owen Sound Artists' Co-op, The Art Shoppe (Miller Lake) and the Milkweed Collective (Toronto).

In my art-making, one of my intentions is to bring the spaces between reality and fantasy together.

Southampton Arts would like to acknowledge the Traditional Territory of the Anishinabek Nation:

The People of the Three Fires known as Ojibway, Odawa, and Pottawatomie Nations, and the Métis Nation.

We further give thanks to the Chippewas of Saugeen, and the Chippewas of Nawash, now known as the Saugeen Ojibway Nation, as the Traditional Keepers of this Land.
