  • Material List

    Either oils or acrylic paints

    Sketchbooks/ paper /ruler

    Black Sharpie markers or similar

Range of pencils or grayscale markers. I use COPIC but any are fine

Four small canvases or panels. (8x10 or 9X12 or 11X14 are fine)

Palette: If you have a Masterson sta-wet palette please bring it along. The Sta-Wet palette sheets and sponges are available at Deserres or Michael’s online and are highly recommended. If not, a few flat plastic or styrofoam trays work great as a palette for the class.

    Containers for water

Paper towels and a few paint rags…I often use my shirt!

Below is a list of materials I suggest for acrylic artists for all my classes.

If you use other mediums that is fine, but ultramarine blue- phthalo blue- burnt sienna (or transparent earth red)- titanium white- black are important pigments for this class.

    Materials for Acrylic Artists

The most important pigment to buy is artist quality, Titanium White. You will use volumes of white compared to other pigments and professional quality makes a huge difference.

Other than white, you can start with student-grade paints and work up, but it makes a huge difference if you use artist-grade materials. Golden and Liquitex are brands I use, but there are many quality products. There are optional colours listed as well but they are nice to have. The liquid white and black I would be at the top of my list.

-Matte Medium- I use Liquitex mainly because I like the squirt bottle better than Golden’s.

    -Ultramarine Blue

    -Phthalo Blue (Green Shade-not red)

    -Cadmium Yellow (light or medium)

    -Yellow Ochre

-Cadmium Red Light (Pyrrole Red or Cadmium free are great as well)

    - Alizarin Crimson or Quinacridone Crimson (you can get Pyrrole as well, but it is more expensive)

-Burnt Sienna (or transparent earth red)

    Optional (but nice)

-(I much prefer Golden liquid Titanium White and Carbon Black, but either the liquid or a tube work great)

    -Phthalo Green

    -Chromium Green Oxide

    -Indian Yellow

    -Light Bismuth Yellow

    -Dioxazine Violet

    - Quinacridone Magenta
